Is superannuation halal in Australia?
Superannuation itself is a tax structure, not an investment. The question is what the investment option inside it holds.
A default MySuper option typically holds conventional bonds, bank shares and unscreened equities. Those holdings do not pass the financial-structure screen used by Shariah standards, which is why default super is generally not described as compliant.
APRA-regulated Shariah-compliant super options do exist in Australia and are compared on InvestHAQ. The three tests applied to any of them are the same: the underlying business activity, the contract, and the financial structure.
Australian context
Under choice-of-fund rules most employees can direct their employer's contributions to a fund they select. Changing funds has consequences for insurance cover - see the insurance answer before acting.
