The eight asnaf
Zakat is distributed among eight categories of recipients defined in the Quran (9:60).

Zakat vs sadaqah
Zakat is an obligatory pillar; sadaqah is voluntary charity. Different purposes, different rules.

Local vs international
Some scholars hold zakat should be distributed locally first. NZF is local-only; the other charities focus internationally.

Zakat eligibility ≠ DGR
A charity may accept zakat without being DGR endorsed. DGR is a tax registration fact - consult a registered tax agent.
