What is the difference between an MER and an ICR?
Both express the annual cost of owning a fund as a percentage, deducted from returns before they reach you. They are not always calculated the same way.
The Indirect Cost Ratio (ICR) is the measure used under ASIC Regulatory Guide 97 and generally captures management costs plus most other indirect costs. A Management Expense Ratio (MER) is an older, less standardised term and different issuers calculate it differently.
InvestHAQ normalises disclosed figures to a standard GST-inclusive basis so funds can be compared on the same footing, and flags every conversion assumption on the fund profile.
