How can I check whether an Islamic fund or adviser is legitimate and licensed?
Five checks, all free, all on official registers.
- ASIC Professional Registers - confirm the AFSL, or that the person is an authorised representative of a named licensee
- ASIC's Financial Advisers Register - for an individual adviser, including their authorisations and history
- ASIC investor alert list - companies you should not deal with
- AFCA membership - if they are not a member, you have no external dispute pathway
- The disclosure documents - a legitimate retail product has a PDS and a TMD, and will give them to you before you invest
Registration is not an endorsement. It confirms the entity is authorised to operate - nothing about whether the product suits you or will perform.
Factual and educational information only. Nothing on this page is financial product advice, a recommendation, or a Shariah ruling. Consider your circumstances and the product's disclosure documents, and seek licensed advice and qualified scholarly guidance before acting.
